Upfitting Technician

 

Education

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Post-secondary training in automotive technology (preferred)
  • GM ASEP (Automotive Service Educational Program) is highly valued

  • ASE certifications (e.g., brakes, electrical, engine repair)
  • GM-specific training via:
  • GM ASEP program
  • GM Service Technical College (STC)

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience with GM vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repair
  • Familiarity with GM tools/software (e.g., GDS2, Tech2)
  • Knowledge of automotive electrical, engine, transmission, and computer systems

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license (often with a clean record)
  • Physical ability to perform automotive repairs
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Willingness to complete ongoing training

Preferred/Advanced Qualifications

  • Completion of GM ASEP program
  • Experience at a GM dealership
  • ASE Master Technician certification
